Shared 2-Day Marrakech to Zagora Desert Tour

Your shared desert journey begins in Marrakech in the morning. After meeting the other travelers in your group, depart toward southern Morocco in an air-conditioned vehicle.

The road climbs gradually into the High Atlas Mountains, where the scenery changes from the plains surrounding Marrakech to mountain villages, deep valleys and dramatic rocky landscapes.

Cross the High Atlas Mountains

Travel across the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, one of Morocco's best-known mountain routes.

Several stops may be made along the way for panoramic views, photographs and short breaks before continuing toward the southern side of the mountains.

The drive itself is an important part of the experience, offering a first look at the changing geography between Marrakech and Morocco's desert regions.

Visit Aït Ben Haddou

Continue to Aït Ben Haddou, one of Morocco's most remarkable fortified settlements and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Built largely from traditional earthen materials, the ksar is known for its towers, narrow passages and striking location beside the Ounila Valley.

You will have time to explore the village and appreciate its traditional southern Moroccan architecture before continuing the journey.

Aït Ben Haddou has also served as a filming location for numerous international productions, but its cultural and architectural importance extends far beyond its film history.

Ouarzazate and the Road South

After visiting Aït Ben Haddou, continue toward Ouarzazate, an important crossroads between the High Atlas, the Draa Valley and Morocco's desert regions.

Depending on timing, lunch is taken along the route before the journey continues south.

Drive Through the Draa Valley

From Ouarzazate, travel toward Agdz and enter the impressive Draa Valley.

This region is known for its long stretches of palm groves, traditional villages, cultivated fields and historic kasbahs set between arid mountain landscapes.

The road follows the valley south toward Zagora, providing some of the most distinctive scenery of the journey.

Zagora Camel Ride and Desert Camp

Arrive in the Zagora area in the late afternoon.

Here you will meet the camel team and begin your camel ride through the desert landscape toward the camp.

The surroundings become particularly atmospheric as the afternoon light softens and the sun approaches the horizon.

After arriving at the camp, settle into your tent and enjoy the peaceful desert surroundings.

Dinner is served at the camp in the evening. Depending on the camp and conditions, the evening may also include traditional music around the campfire.

Wake early to experience the quiet atmosphere of the desert morning.

Those who wish can rise before breakfast to watch the changing colors of the landscape around sunrise.

After breakfast at the camp, leave Zagora and begin the journey back toward Marrakech.

Return Through the Draa Valley

Travel once again through the Draa Valley, passing palm groves, villages and kasbahs as you make your way north toward Ouarzazate.

The return journey gives you another perspective on this remarkable region and its combination of oasis landscapes and dry mountain scenery.

Ouarzazate

Arrive in Ouarzazate, where there may be time for a short stop depending on the day's schedule.

Ouarzazate has historically served as an important connection point between Marrakech, the valleys of southern Morocco, and the Sahara trade routes.

Lunch is normally taken along the route at your own expense.

Cross the High Atlas Back to Marrakech

In the afternoon, continue toward the High Atlas Mountains.

Cross the Tizi n'Tichka Pass once again before descending toward Marrakech.

Arrival in Marrakech is normally scheduled for the evening, depending on traffic, weather, road conditions, and the group's progress during the day.
