Experience southern Morocco on a private 2-day Marrakech to Zagora desert tour, combining High Atlas scenery, historic earthen villages, the palm-filled Draa Valley, a camel ride and an overnight desert camp.
Designed for travelers with limited time, this private journey takes you from Marrakech across the High Atlas Mountains to UNESCO-listed Aït Ben Haddou, through Ouarzazate and the Draa Valley, and onward to the desert landscapes around Zagora.
Arrive in the late afternoon for a camel ride before spending the night at a desert camp. The following morning, enjoy the desert atmosphere before returning to Marrakech through southern Morocco.
With your own private vehicle and driver, you have more flexibility for scenic stops, photographs, and breaks throughout the journey.
Your private Marrakech to Zagora desert tour begins in the morning with pickup from your hotel or riad in Marrakech.
Meet your driver and leave the city toward the High Atlas Mountains.
The scenery changes quickly as you move away from the Marrakech plains and climb into mountain valleys, traditional villages and dramatic rocky landscapes.
Travel through the High Atlas Mountains along the Tizi n'Tichka route.
The road offers impressive views across valleys, mountain slopes and villages built into the surrounding landscape.
Because this is a private tour, selected stops can be made for photographs, refreshments and panoramic views when time and road conditions allow.
Continue across the mountains toward Aït Ben Haddou.
Arrive at Aït Ben Haddou, one of southern Morocco's most distinctive fortified settlements and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Built largely from traditional earthen materials, the ksar contains towers, houses and narrow passageways rising above the surrounding valley.
Take time to explore the village on foot and appreciate its traditional architecture before continuing toward Ouarzazate.
A local guide can be arranged if requested.
Continue to Ouarzazate, an important crossroads connecting the High Atlas Mountains with Morocco's southern valleys and desert regions.
Lunch can be arranged in Ouarzazate or elsewhere along the route.
Afterward, continue south toward Agdz.
From Agdz, enter the impressive Draa Valley, one of the scenic highlights of the journey.
Long stretches of date palms follow the valley floor between dry mountains, traditional villages and historic kasbahs.
Stops can be made at selected viewpoints to admire the contrast between the green oasis and the surrounding arid landscape.
Continue south toward Zagora.
Reach Zagora during the late afternoon.
The landscapes around Zagora are different from the large Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga. Here, you experience a mixture of rocky desert terrain, palm groves and smaller sandy areas.
This makes Zagora a practical destination for travelers who only have two days available from Marrakech.
Meet the camel team and begin your ride through the desert landscape.
As the afternoon light changes, enjoy the quiet surroundings before arriving at your camp.
The precise timing of the camel ride depends on the season, weather and arrival time.
Travelers who prefer not to ride a camel can ask about an alternative transfer to the camp.
Arrive at the camp and settle into your tent.
Dinner is served in the evening, followed by time to relax and enjoy the desert atmosphere.
Depending on the camp and conditions, traditional music may be offered around the campfire.
Spend the night at the desert camp near Zagora.
Overnight: Zagora desert camp
Meals included: Dinner
Wake early if you would like to experience the desert at sunrise.
After breakfast at the camp, leave Zagora and begin the journey back toward Marrakech.
The early morning offers a quieter perspective on the surrounding landscape.
Depending on your camp arrangements, you can return from the camp by camel or vehicle before meeting your driver.
Travel north once again through the Draa Valley.
The return journey provides another opportunity to appreciate the extensive palm groves, villages and kasbah landscapes that follow the valley.
Continue toward Agdz and Ouarzazate.
Arrive in Ouarzazate, where a short sightseeing stop can be arranged depending on your interests and available time.
Possible visits may include the exterior of Taourirt Kasbah or other attractions in the area.
Entrance fees and optional visits should be confirmed separately.
Lunch can be arranged in Ouarzazate or along the return route.
In the afternoon, continue toward the High Atlas Mountains.
Cross the Tizi n'Tichka route once again, with panoramic stops when traffic, weather and road conditions permit.
Descend toward the plains surrounding Marrakech.
Arrive in Marrakech during the late afternoon or early evening.
The exact arrival time depends on traffic, weather, road conditions and the duration of stops during the day.
Your driver will drop you at your hotel, riad or the nearest vehicle-accessible point.
Your arrival marks the end of your private 2-day Marrakech to Zagora desert tour.
Meals included: Breakfast
