Today the landscape changes considerably as you pass through Tamgroute and M’Hamid before leaving the paved road for the off-road journey to Erg Chigaga.

Your first major stop is Tamgroute, a historic settlement south of Zagora.

The village is particularly known for its religious heritage and distinctive traditional pottery.

Take time to explore before continuing toward M’Hamid.

Sunset Camel Ride

Meet the camel team and begin your ride across the dunes.

The late afternoon is one of the most atmospheric times to experience Erg Chigaga as the changing light creates different colors and shadows across the sand.

When weather and timing permit, pause among the dunes around sunset before continuing toward your camp.

Camel riding is optional. Travelers who prefer not to ride can continue to the camp by 4×4.

Continue across open desert terrain toward the Iriqui region.

This is another substantial off-road section of the journey, crossing a combination of desert plains and rocky landscapes.

The route may pass across or near the broad, dry lakebed associated with Lake Iriqui, depending on current track and weather conditions.
